Indians beyond Hollywood

Indians beyond Hollywood

A warrior gallops through wild plains as his young Indian woman with long braided hair awaits him in her teepee. Does this sound familiar? Do you remember images from your childhood, such as Lucky Luke talking to the grand chief of the Apaches, or the adventures of Yakari and his horse, Little Thunder? These images pervade the collective imagination, etched into our vision of the American Wild West. Hollywood films created such stereotypical characters, here referred to as “Indians,” diminishing the rich diversity of the Indigenous peoples to mere clichés.

A production of the Musée des Abénakis in collaboration with the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science with the contribution of Heritage Canada.
